Lords of Rhodes, circa 1250-1310. AE (Bronze, 18 mm, 0.88 g). Palaeologus coat of arms. Rev. Palaeologus coat of arms. Kasdagli, Coins in Rhodes, 1593. Schlumberger pl. VIII, 23. Extremely rare. Minor areas of weakness and with some marks, otherwise, very fine.

Bearing the Palaeologus coat of arms, this very interesting coin was struck on the island of Rhodes after John Gabalas, son of Leo Gabalas, called the Byzantines to help him fend off the Genoese. In 1309, the Knights of St. John eventually conquered the island, bringing to the rule of the Lords of Rhodes to an end.
